About the program

The Egyptian citizenship by investment program was launched in 2020 under Parliamentary Law No. 190 of 2019. The government created a dedicated Citizenship by Investment Unit to attract direct foreign investment into the country’s economy.

Investors are not required to pass exams in Arabic language or Egyptian history, reside permanently in the country, or renounce their current citizenship. The program is open to applicants of any nationality. To obtain a passport, applicants must choose one of four investment options and pass a due diligence check.

  • Investment options: non-refundable contribution to the state treasury, real estate purchase, business investment, or bank deposit
  • Taxation: no corporate income tax in free economic zones
  • Family status: passports available for spouses and children up to 21 years old
  • Residency requirements: none

What advantages come with Egyptian passport?

U.S. investor visa

Egyptian citizens can obtain a five-year non-immigrant E-2 visa to conduct business in the United States.

Asset diversification

Opportunity to invest in Egyptian real estate with strong growth potential driven by tourism and infrastructure development.

Geopolitical hedge

A passport from a BRICS member country provides alternative options in a changing global landscape.

Visa-free travel options

Egyptian citizenship allows visa-free or visa-on-arrival travel to 66 countries worldwide, including Hong Kong, Malaysia, Macau, and the Seychelles.

Africa and the Middle East

An Egyptian passport provides privileged access to African countries. Egyptian citizens are the only holders of investment-program passports who can obtain a visa on arrival in Nigeria. Visa-free travel is also available to Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, and other Arab countries.

Asia-Pacific region

Egyptian passport holders can visit Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Macau without a visa. Electronic visas (eVisas) are available for Singapore, the Philippines, and other destinations in the region. Visa-free entry is also granted to Indonesia, making the Egyptian passport convenient for travel across Southeast Asia.

The United States and the E-2 treaty

Under the 1992 treaty between Egypt and the United States, Egyptian citizens are eligible to apply for an E-2 investor visa. This visa allows living and doing business in the U.S. for up to five years with the option to extend. The minimum investment for an E-2 visa typically starts from USD 100,000.

In summary, an Egyptian passport opens doors for international business, particularly in the fast-growing economies of Africa and the Middle East, and offers a unique path to legal immigration to the United States through the E-2 program.
