The Egyptian citizenship by investment program was launched in 2020 under Parliamentary Law No. 190 of 2019. The government created a dedicated Citizenship by Investment Unit to attract direct foreign investment into the country’s economy.
Investors are not required to pass exams in Arabic language or Egyptian history, reside permanently in the country, or renounce their current citizenship. The program is open to applicants of any nationality. To obtain a passport, applicants must choose one of four investment options and pass a due diligence check.

Egyptian passport holders can visit Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Macau without a visa. Electronic visas (eVisas) are available for Singapore, the Philippines, and other destinations in the region. Visa-free entry is also granted to Indonesia, making the Egyptian passport convenient for travel across Southeast Asia.
Under the 1992 treaty between Egypt and the United States, Egyptian citizens are eligible to apply for an E-2 investor visa. This visa allows living and doing business in the U.S. for up to five years with the option to extend. The minimum investment for an E-2 visa typically starts from USD 100,000.
In summary, an Egyptian passport opens doors for international business, particularly in the fast-growing economies of Africa and the Middle East, and offers a unique path to legal immigration to the United States through the E-2 program.

Two visits to Egypt are required: one to submit the application in Cairo, and another for the medical examination and biometric data. No oath is required to obtain citizenship. All other steps can be handled remotely through authorized representatives.
The application may include a spouse and children under 21 years old. Children receive citizenship at the same time as the main applicant, while the spouse obtains it two years later (a measure to prevent fraudulent marriages). Muslim men are allowed to include up to four wives. Parents cannot be included under the Egyptian program.
An Egyptian passport simplifies opening accounts in Egyptian branches of international banks and establishing companies in nine free economic zones with full exemption from corporate taxes. However, citizenship alone does not grant Egyptian tax residency—you must spend more than 183 days per year in the country to qualify.
